		<description>I very much like your close reading of the State of the Union address.  I do something similar in yesterday's post on The Weekly Rader, where I read the State of the Union speech as though it were a student paper.  You can see what grade I give the president here:
Interestingly, I talk about the president's absence of big ideas in my post yesterday on The Weekly Rader.  As a professor of writing and a media critic, I was eager to "read" his speech as though it were a student paper.  For me, I found the text lacked an original thesis and any specific details to support the rather vague assertions it tries to make.
